Dr. Charles Mark Russell
Dr. Russell has worked in veterinary medicine for over 30 years and has always had a passion for animals. In high school, while living on his family's cattle and row-crop farm in Providence, Kentucky, he decided to become a veterinarian.
Dr. Russell received his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Kentucky in 1978. He received his DVM from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1982. Dr. Russell founded and has been the medical director of Whitesburg Animal Hospital since 1985. Internal medicine, allergies, surgery, and ultrasound are his specialties.
Dr. Russell is dedicated to staying current in veterinary medicine and technology. He is a member of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association (and a past president), the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Madison County Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, and the American Association of Feline Practitioners.
Dr. Russell continues to give back through various organizations and our Angel Adoption Program. He also received a special service award for leading the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association's 100th Anniversary. Dr. Russell has also volunteered with Christian Veterinary Mission in India and Honduras.
Dr. Russell enjoys bicycling, skiing, working on his farm, and tailgating at Auburn football games. Dr. Russell values spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter. Mon'Amie, the Standard Poodle, and Dr. Jeffers, the cat, are part of the Russell household. The family owns a few cows as well.
